SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

In addition to known social media platforms such as Instagram, Chevy Chase has two widely used  social media outlets that are open and welcoming to all community members that post in real time. They are slightly different from each other and seem to have varying audience types. So, in addition to Instagram, here is a brief rundown on these two platforms and their type of content, the number of members they have, and how they operate.

  • Chevy Chase Chatter - A members only Facebook group. It is the fastest growing and most timely social media outlet concentrating on Chevy Chase. It was started in August 2018 by local resident Stacy Beck, and as of February 2, 2026 it has 4,633 subscribers. It is unique in that it provides Chevy Chase residents with unedited communications in real time, without needing to wait for moderator approval, editing, and posting. Posts vary, but it is the most family oriented of all neighborhood forums while still including topics of critical neighborhood interest. Personal attacks on private individuals or hate speech will be removed.
  • NextDoor - Launched in the U.S. in 2011, it has close to 12,000 members residing in the greater Chevy Chase area within DC boundaries. Members are connected based on their addresses and grouped into local neighborhoods (e.g., the area designated as West Chevy Chase DC has 2,753 members as of  May 13, 2025). It provides unedited real-time communication with neighbors. Members can post to their own or several neighborhoods at once.  Posts include local news & events, buying/selling, and service recommendations. Rules govern what members can publish.
